Field Set for First Event on PGA TOUR Americas,
Bupa Championship at Tulum
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – The field has been announced for the Bupa Championship at Tulum, the first tournament in the inaugural season of PGA TOUR Americas. The 16-event schedule opens next week, March 21-24, at PGA Riviera Maya in Tulum, Mexico, as players begin the season-long race for the Fortinet Cup and compete for 2025 Korn Ferry Tour membership.
The Bupa Championship at Tulum will feature players from 18 countries, including 29 players from Latin America representing Argentina (13), Mexico (10), Brazil (2), Chile (2), Peru (1) and Costa Rica (1). The field also includes 87 players who finished in the top 60 on the 2023 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Totalplay Cup or PGA TOUR Canada Fortinet Cup points lists, and nine players who won on either tour last season.
Several players with standout amateur careers are also set to compete in the PGA TOUR Americas season opener. Latin America Amateur Championship winners Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira (2023) and Paul Chaplet (2016) are in the field, and they’ll be joined by Jose Cristobal Islas, winner of the 2023 Mexico Amateur. Additionally, Fernandez de Oliveira (University of Arkansas) is one of 10 PGA TOUR University alumni who will compete at PGA Riviera Maya.
The final six spots in the 144-player field will be filled by the open qualifier, which will be played Monday, March 18, at PGA Riviera Maya.
As announced in April 2023, PGA TOUR Americas is the combination of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and PGA TOUR Canada. The first six events of the season form the Latin America Swing, while the North America Swing begins in June and consists of 10 events. Up to 15 Korn Ferry Tour cards are on the line for PGA TOUR Americas players – five conditional memberships will go to the top players from the Latin America (2) and North America (3) Swings, and the top 10 players in the season-long Fortinet Cup points list will earn exempt membership.
